County Council Election, Middleton Cheney, May 2017 – Labour Candidate Statement
Richard Solesbury-Timms, Labour
I am a local family person with a long and wide family connection within Middleton Cheney and the wider area. I am a Parish Councillor and volunteer at the local food bank and lunch kitchen for the Salvation Army in Banbury. I am a keen bellringer and tower captain for Middleton Cheney Parish Church
The four main areas of my campaign are:
Defending local surgeries / campaigning against cuts – We have received promises of fixed roads, flood alleviation in King’s Sutton and additional funding for our services such as the surgery in Middleton Cheney. I will lobby and fight for these things. Given the continued increase in traffic on the A422 resulting from its connection to the the M1 / M40 corridor, and additional stresses on our local road network that will very likely be caused by HS2 construction traffic and the proposed M40 Junction 11 motorway services, I will also keep up the fight for the deperately needed bypass at Farthinghoe.
Lobbying for public transport for rural areas – Our villages tend to be forgotten as far as public transport is concerned and our future bus services are under threat as Conservative councillors seek to cut funding.
Raising awareness of isolation – Loneliness is a silent epidemic that is becoming more widespread within an ageing population living in a country that is experiencing a social care crisis. We need to address this.
Engaging with residents in regards to the Horton general hospital – Under current proposals, there would be no doctors or opportunity for epidural relief for women in need of it. They would have to go to the JR in Oxford and this is clearly a threat to our residents.
