Collections for the British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal start tomorrow, and poppies will be available as ever until November 11 at the Primary Academy, the Post Office, the Butchers Arms, the White Horse, Just Hair, the Hall Coffee Shop and the Baptist Church in King’s Sutton, and at the Primary School, Rose & Crown and Post Office in Charlton. (Donations are usually received from the Parish Church, the Boys Brigade, and the parish councils of King’s Sutton and Charlton cum Newbottle as well.)
However, funds raised through donations and poppy sales at static sites in the villages need to be supplemented by door-to-door collections, which always add substantially to the final amount raised for this great cause. Since King’s Sutton has grown over the past few years, it has become more difficult for the current crop of collectors to get round the whole village. Anyone who can spare a few hours to help out with door-to-door collections in their street and thus make a very worthwhile contribution to the welfare of the country’s veterans, should get in touch by email with our local organiser, Andrew Waite, using the email link below.
