Playing Fields Association Lights Blue Touch Paper and Retires

October 8th, 2012

FireworksNovember 4 sees the third fireworks display organised by former White Horse landlord Chris Prothero and Playing Fields Association committee chairman Mike Kidd to raise funds for various King’s Sutton organisations, the Playing Fields in particular. (See the poster reproduced here, or our Events Diary for details of times, ticket prices, etc.)

Sadly, while Chris Prothero will continue to organise the Fireworks for the foreseeable future, this year’s display looks like being the last to involve any of the current members of the Playing Fields Association committee, several of whom are stepping down in December after years of service to our community. Chairman Mike Kidd, for example, is bowing out after five years in which he and his fellow committee members have raised over £10,000 for the Playing Fields and implemented massive improvements to the amenities there.

Nick Armstrong has also resigned after some 20 years on the committee, as has Caro Stacy. Honourable mention should also be made of Chris Prothero, who has worked tirelessly over the past few years to get the fireworks event off the ground, and who will be greatly missed now that he’s left the pub. The Playing Fields Association provides vital sports and social facilities for King’s Sutton, and the village owes everyone involved a huge debt of gratitude. Anyone interested in serving on the new committee should contact Mike Kidd using the contact details in our Quick Contacts section.

This year’s fireworks promise to surpass even the superlative display held last year. For a flavour of what to expect, play the video of the 2011 fireworks here:
