The parish council has purchased its first vehicle activated sign (VAS) to warn motorists to slow their speed to the regulation 30mph when they’re driving through King’s Sutton. The sign will be installed in early December on the approach into the village along Banbury Lane and will automatically flash a “30 mph – SLOW DOWN” message to drivers who exceed the speed limit. The parish council hopes this reminder will encourage better, more responsible driving behaviour throughout the village.
An interesting feature of the new VAS is its ability to count the number of vehicles travelling in excess of the speed limit. The sign will also be able to record the speeds of such vehicles and provide data on how many drivers travel at 30-plus, 40-plus, 50-plus miles per hour or higher to the police’s accident prevention and road safety team. They will then determine when to place police speed-check vehicles on Banbury Lane.
If the Banbury Lane VAS proves successful, it is very likely that additional signs will be commissioned for positioning in Astrop Road and Mill Lane.
